Making a difference

Here's some feedback from the amazing teachers and young people we work with.

Hi Nathan,

Here is your poem song 🎵

I have a musical teacher
And he has some good features
He is happy to work with me
Even if I am a bit crazy
He is quite pleasant
And he gave me a wonderful present*
But for all of the work he has done
And making it so much fun
I just want to say thank you
For everything
I love it all
In our teams call.

 Good morning Nathan,

Apologies for the delay in replying - there has been a lot going in, including sports week last week - however I have finally managed to catch up with our Year 6's and get some feedback regarding the workshop and the song.

They absolutely loved the workshop and seeing their ideas turn from thoughts into words into music.

After listening to the final version they thought that it was amazing! Thank you for giving them a day where they were able to relax and be themselves a little more - this year has been intense for all and as leavers in the current climate there is a lot of uncertainty and anxiety - your workshop allowed them to forget that for a small period of time.

Dear Nathan,

Again, thank you for your 4 songwriting sessions this week - the children loved it.

We will be playing their songs at our Celebration Ceremony tomorrow afternoon!

I can’t wait to see the response!

Kind regards,
Michelle

We have booked workshops with The Songwriting Charity for several years running. Our setting is a special school for students aged 15-19 who have a range of complex needs.

Nathan approaches the task of writing a song with the school in a really motivating and engaging way using a range of techniques to get the most out of the young people involved.

Students were able to contribute vocally and instrumentally in a variety of ways and were encouraged to be creative and experiment with their performances.

The results achieved in a day are fantastic -  strong songs with catchy hooks that the whole school can learn and perform.

Everyone at Lancaster School loved the experience and learnt a lot about the song-writing/recording process as well as having fun. Thank you.

Dear John,

"Before I go home this evening, I have to sit down and send you a quick email... As a charity you inspire, encourage, support and enthuse our young people and I have evidence of that in 17 children that you worked with today. I know I rabbited on earlier about how much the workshops have helped pupils etc etc but I can only say my words are genuine and spoken from the heart.  I know these pupils better than most, having worked with them for a number of years - they are difficult; have needs; lack confidence; don't work as teams...anybody that listens to their track will not know that, there will be no inkling of the difficulties they face in life. Only I - and the pupils - can know how much today meant to them and the serious impact it has had on them as individuals.  To see those children; to listen to their voices and words after spending the day with you...you know, words fail me.  I was genuinely moved by the whole thing (again!) but more so than before as I have see these children blossom and grow in confidence - their pride had me fit to bursting... Thank you for all you do and for all you are."

Mrs Amy Vinnicombe, Edward Francis Primary School, via email - working with The Songwriting Charity every year since 2012-2021

Hi Nathan,

Just wanted to let you know all went very well with the launch today!

You would have loved seeing most of the children singing the chorus to the song as they left the respective assembly halls!!

It was so good to see and hear!

Thanks so much for being part of it - and for being part of the The Island Learning Trust legacy!!

I’ll be in touch again soon!!

Kind Regards,

Ryan
