Millbrook Academy - Vocal Project |
With funding from Make Music Gloucestershire, the county's music education hub, the Songwriting Charity has partnered with a number of schools across the county to run 12 week vocal projects culminating in a live performance and professional recording & music video, filmed on location at Postlip Hall.
Below is the high octane 'Love is the Feeling' from Millbrook Academy. If you think your school would like to do something similar, please contact ben@songwritingcharity.org The singers featured in this video are year 8 & 9 students from Millbrook Academy in Brockworth, Gloucester, and the song is their own creation, written with the help of Ben O’Sullivan of The Songwriting Charity, though a programme of work in their school.
A big thank you to Mrs Cameron, head of performing arts at Millbrook for leading on the project with Ben. They’re part of a programme of singing work that we call the Vocal Projects, initiated and funded by Make Music Gloucestershire, the county’s music education hub, through the hub’s Singing Champion, Lisa Mayo, and also by Gloucestershire Healthy Living and Learning. The aim is to shape singing around the needs and interests of students, particularly concerning repertoire - and in doing so to involve students who love singing, but want to go that extra mile with their work. Also, importantly, to improve young people’s health and wellbeing, through building confidence, self-esteem, positive attitude, encouraging safe relationships and team-work. A special thanks to Dr. V Warburton, Meredith Miller and to all at DF/Net for your dedication and support in helping us evaluate and evidence the impact of our work.
