Turning the tables on the bullies

5/2/2019

Ryan McCaffrey, professional multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from Norfolk, is releasing a new track 'Turned Tables' - inspired by his experience with bullying - in a bid to raise money for The Songwriting Charity, as well as a greater awareness of the impact of bullying.'Turned Tables' aims to raise awareness of the short- and long-term impact of bullying. Moreover, the lyrics remind victims of bullying that they are not alone and encourages them to find healthy coping mechanisms. McCaffrey frequently turned to music as an outlet during his own times of difficulty, turning feelings of negativity into something positive.

"Bullies aren't just confined to the playground, and the impact of bullying - at any age - can be seriously detrimental to somebody's mental health," commented Ryan. "I know from my own ordeals with bullying  - through childhood, into adulthood - that though the scars are invisible, they are still there. However, I am determined not to let my bad experiences ruin my life. I wrote this song for the bullies; I hope they take heed of the lyrics and re-consider the impact of their actions, as I believe most bullies don’t understand the harm they cause. Equally, this track is for the victims of bullying, to encourage them to channel their hurt and frustrations into healthy outlets, and know that the darkness will ease and pass."

Nathan Timothy, CEO, The Songwriting Charity stated, "Bullybeat empowers children to do something about it if it’s happening to them or their friends. Ryan’s kind donation of royalties via this heartfelt single will go directly into helping lots of children all over the uk combat bullying. I’d like to say a huge thank you to Ryan on behalf of all the beneficiaries of the Songwriting Charity."

Ryan recorded the composition alongside band Cong Fusion, featuring himself on keys, vocalist Violetta Mazzota (co-writer of "Lost in the Dark"), trumpeter Rowan Porteous, guitarist Manolo Polidario, bassist Dave Troke, drummer Joe Malone, and percussionist Vincent Salzfaas. The track was recorded, mixed and mastered at Spacehouse Studio London by Nick Jackson.
